Let’s say you’ve got a personal service business in some way, shape or form, and you basically have to be there in order for the service to be provided. If you’re not there, your service isn’t provided, and you don’t get paid. In your heart, you know it’s not efficient, but you don’t know how to fix it. What do you do when you want to move away from making a living and move towards making prosperity? There’s only one word you need to know: leverage.
How to Leverage Your Business
The definition of leverage is simply doing more with less. Through leverage, you exert less effort, but bring in more income. While more value and energy is being put out for that income, you’re not the one necessarily putting out all of the energy.
Instead, you’ve systemized your business so someone else can do it while you’re away. However, that’s only one option for leverage, isn’t it? Leverage comes in the form of other people, in using technology, and in other ways of delivering your service, a portion of your service, or a likeness of your service without you having to be there.
How Leveraging Worked for Me
The most intelligent thing I ever did was set up all of my courses and trainings in a way that someone else could do them. After I wrote my book (Secrets of the Millionaire Mind), you might think that everybody wants to come see Harv. Though that’s true — it’s not true 100% of the time.
You think that people are coming to see you as the rock star, right? You think they won’t want to see anyone else, but that’s not true. They want the value, not necessarily you.
Really, they just want their problem solved. They don’t care about whether it’s you, Joe, Bob, Sue or Phil. If Phil can do just as good a job, if not better than you, they’ll take Phil.
It’s time to get off the high horse. I had to do the same thing. Yes, I think I could do the best job. When I teach at one of my seminars, the sales are 20% to 30% higher. Still, I only do two or three seminars a year now to open up new countries.
Guess what? Even though I only do two or three a year, there are over 250 of my courses going on. Can you imagine? That means there are about 200,000 people are getting value without me being there.
There is no way I would be able to do 250 courses over such a short period of time. So yes, initially your sales might be lower without you. However, once you are able to leverage other people, technology, or any other leverage points in your business, you now have a real chance of scalability.
Why You Need to Leverage
If you systemize and leverage your business properly, you will get rich. If you don’t, you will earn a living. It’s as simple as that. Obviously, there are expectations to every rule. However, having almost 2 million students worldwide, I get to see what works for 99% of them and what doesn’t.
Leverage works. Moreover, anyone who says different is either broke or is stuck on their high horse and will never get off it.
You could make a fortune teaching people how to do what you do.
Why don’t you put out a product? Products that give a similar or different value to you are the greatest invention on Earth, because you don’t have to be there for your value to be delivered.
I think right now I have somewhere around 1.73 million books sold. All of these people have gotten the value out of Secrets of the Millionaire Mind without me being there.
Though I don’t make a killing or a fortune on them, it still pays off. If I printed every book myself and sold each one myself on the street corner, I would make $20 a book, but I don’t. Do you know how much I make? I make about $2 per book. That’s about it. Still, can you multiply $2 by 1.7 million? I think that’s pretty decent, don’t you?
You may say, “Harv, I’m not you.” No, but maybe you’re better than me at it!
Get a little creative. It’s not about you. It’s about your value. Remember, people pay to have their problem solved. If you can solve it, great. If you can’t solve it, they’ll go to somebody else. You can still solve their problem without you having to be there all of the time, can’t you? Put on your thinking cap.
